The contributions of Mesopotamia are nearly endless! This early civilization developed a form of writing and published the first set of written laws. Mesopotamia's legacies continue to influence today's societies.
For example, the Mesopotamians invented the 60 minute hour and the 7 day week which we still use today in present time.
Also they developed the wheel, the arch, the siege and the plow. Today we use the wheel to move our car each day when parents travel to work each day. The plow is now used to help the farmers in the fields to turnover soil. Farmers today use plows to help them grow crops and still turn over soil. The siege is a military blockade and an attack on a city to make them surrender. The arch is used today by many architects to create beauty in the houses. An arch is usually upside down U’s and V’s. On the other hand the Assyrians invented the aqueducts which can help water travel to distant places. So the question is... Why not study Mesopotamia when it contributed to many things that we still use today? |
